What DNA cannot tell you about lifespan

A DNA test cannot predict how long an individual animal will live. A population statistic is not a personal prognosis.

An average describes a population

Lifespan statistics describe animals in a particular group and period. They are not a date for your animal. Age, health, environment and many other factors influence an individual life.

Genetic findings are not a lifespan forecast

A test can examine specific variants associated with inherited conditions. A finding alone does not mean the animal will become ill or have a shorter life. A variant that is not detected does not guarantee a long or illness-free life. GenePaws does not offer an individual DNA-based lifespan forecast.

Follow the animal you know

Changes in appetite, activity, weight, pain or behaviour are important observations. Contact your vet if symptoms appear, regardless of a genetic result. Bring the complete result if the finding may be relevant.
