Responsibility

This is how the results from GenePaws should be understood

GenePaws is indicative, not a diagnosis. We want you to understand exactly what you get and don't get from an GenePaws test.

This is a draft. The limitation of liability must be legally approved before the terms are final. Inalienable consumer rights apply regardless.

The results are calculations, not conclusions

The report may contain statistical calculations and results for investigated genetic markers . It presents specific genetic information, rather than a complete or final account of the animal. Ancestry estimates, health markers and traits must state uncertainty, sources and what was actually tested.

Results may change over time. As reference databases and research improve, a new calculation may give a different answer than before. The change may be due to the comparison basis being updated, and must be explained in the report.

If the breed is not found in our reference panel. Breed and origin calculation is based on the fact that we can compare the animal's DNA with a reference panel of known breeds. If the animal's breed is not represented in the panel, the calculation can show instead closely related breeds . Breed and ancestry estimates are therefore calculations, not guarantees.

It is not a veterinary medical diagnosis

GenePaws does not make diagnoses and does not replace a veterinarian . A health marker does not mean the animal is ill or will become ill. Carrier interpretation depends on inheritance mode, variant, sex and breed. If you are concerned about the animal’s health or considering action based on a result: always contact a veterinarian. Feel free to share the results with your vet.

Environment, upbringing and training matter a lot

Genes only tell part of the story. Environment, upbringing, nutrition, training and other biological conditions can also affect health and attributes. How much each ratio means varies.

Not an official registration

GenePaws is not an official pedigree or registration with the NKK, NRR (FIFe), studbooks or other studbook organisations, and does not replace official health examinations (such as HD/AD X-ray or ECVO eye scan) or ISAG-verified pedigree where required. Consider GenePaws as a supplement, not a substitute for, official documentation.

Decisions you make

You decide what to do with the results. GenePaws is not responsible for decisions about breeding, buying, selling, processing or anything else that are taken on the basis of the results. For breeding and purchase decisions, we recommend that you obtain advice from a veterinarian and the relevant breed club/register in addition.

Our responsibility

GenePaws must deliver the service with professional care. The laboratory, analysis method and any scope of accreditation must be stated for the test in question. Should something go wrong with the delivery, you have your full rights as a consumer Consumer Purchase Act and the right of withdrawal act . We do not limit these rights.

By the way, and to the extent permitted by law, GenePaws is not responsible for indirect or consequential losses resulting from the use of the results (for example, lost profits or breeding decisions), and our total liability is limited to the amount you have paid for the test in question. Nothing here limits liability that we cannot disclaim under Norwegian law, including liability for intent, gross negligence, or your inalienable consumer rights under the Consumer Purchase Act and the Right of Cancellation Act.

In short: use GenePaws as knowledge and guidance. If in doubt about the animal's health, contact a veterinarian.
